I love that my kids are still impressed by cute, fun bookmarks!  They love to collect and use them.  But even if your kids don’t like bookmarks or use digital readers, you can still make use of this bookmark craft.  Use them to decorate flower and plant pots for the holidays or use them for creative play, such as putting on a puppet show with the kids!  You can even leave the Popsicle stick off and add a magnet to the back to decorate the fridge or add them as gift tags to Halloween goodies.

Bonus – this craft makes use of recycled material!

To make these bookmarks you’ll first need to gather up your supplies:

1. Cereal box
2. Acrylic paint
3. Paint brush
4. Popsicle sticks
5. Craft glue
6. Pencil
7. Scissors
8. Printable template (found at the end of this post)

After printing out your template patterns, carefully cut each one out and set aside. You’ll find a ghost, cat, bat and pumpkin template. Create one (or several) of each or just make your favorite ones.

Take your empty cereal box and pull apart the glued ends, laying the box flat on the table. With the wrong side of the cereal box facing up, trace your patterns onto the cereal box. Grab your scissors and carefully cut them out.

Next, grab your acrylic paints (orange for the pumpkin, black for the bat and cat, white for the ghost) and begin applying your paint. You’ll probably need two coats of paint for the ghost and only one for the other colors. Set aside and allow the paint to dry completely.

Gather acrylic paints for the characters (orange for the pumpkin, black for the bat and cat, white for
the ghost). Apply 2 coats of paint for the ghost and the rest of the colors can be applies only once.
Allow the painting to dry entirely.

Use the patterns in the template for the mouth and eyes. Attach them to your character using craft glue.  Or draw them on using your own style!

Finally, attach a popsicle stick on the back of your character. Allow to dry and your bookmark is ready to use or give as a gift!
