Free Pirate Back to School Name Labels (Boy & Girl Printables)

Every year, at least one water bottle comes home with the wrong name on it – or doesn’t come home at all! These Pirate Back to School Name Labels are a fun way to keep your kiddo’s supplies from wandering off, and they’re cute enough that kids actually want to stick them on everything. Each label reads “This Belongs To:” with little pirate and space for their name, so labeling school supplies feels less like a chore and more like claiming their treasure.

Two Versions: Boy and Girl

I made two designs so you can pick whichever your little pirate loves best:

A pink pirate girl version
A classic pirate boy version

Each printable gives you a full sheet of round labels – plenty to cover a backpack’s worth of supplies, with extras to spare. Grab one or both at the bottom of this post.

What to Label for Back to School

If it can leave the house, it can go missing! These are the things I always make sure to label:

Water bottles and lunchboxes – the #1 items that come home with someone else’s name (or don’t come home at all)
Jackets and sweaters – especially in those unpredictable fall weeks
Supply boxes, pencil pouches, and headphones – anything shared-looking that’s easy to mix up
Crayon and colored pencil boxes – a labeled box is a lot easier to get back
Backpacks and library book bags
Nap mats or extra clothes for the little ones

How to Print Your Labels

You’ve got a few options depending on what you have on hand:

Sticker paper is the easiest – print, cut, peel, and stick. I like this sticker paper for a quick, no-fuss option.
Cardstock works great too – just print on white cardstock and attach with a glue stick or a bit of tape.
Want them to peel perfectly every time? The labels are sized to fit Avery 22817, 2″ round labels – just print straight onto the label sheet.

Make Them Last

Paper labels take a beating on water bottles and lunchboxes, so a couple of quick tricks go a long way:

Cover each label with a strip of clear packing tape to waterproof it — cheap and surprisingly durable
For anything that goes through the dishwasher, either laminate the label first or plan to hand-wash that item
Press stickers on firmly and give them a few hours to set before the first use

Let the Kids Help

Half the fun is letting your kiddos write their own names and decide where each label goes. It’s sneaky handwriting practice, and they take a little more pride in their supplies when they’ve labeled everything themselves. My kids genuinely enjoyed going around the house “claiming” their stuff — book collections, toy bins, even the things siblings are always fighting over because they have the same one!
