Remember those Rainbow Scratch Art kits? They’ve been around forever! I remember doing them as a kid and my kids have come across several different ones over the years as well. They’re always a hit and the kids have a lot of fun with it. So how about letting the kids make their own Scratch Art! This Scratch Art Pumpkin Craft comes with a free printable template and allows you to get completely creative with the colors.
Scratch Art Pumpkin Craft
First, gather up your supplies:
White Cardstock or Construction Paper
Crayons (broken crayons are perfect for this)
Black Paint
Dish Soap
Large Paint Brush
Scissors
Glue
Pencil
Scratch Tool (chopsticks work well)
Printable Template (found at the end of this post)
After gathering up all of your supplies, print and cut out the template. Set it aside.
Grab your white cardstock and use crayons to completely color the paper. You can use Fall or Halloween colors here or get creative and use any combination of colors you want.
In a bowl, mix your black paint with a few drops of dish soap.
Use a large paintbrush to coat the entire piece of paper that you just covered with crayon. You don’t want any of the crayon peeking through. After covering the whole thing with black paint, set it aside and allow the paper to dry completely.
Turn your black paper over and trace the template on the back with pencil. Cut the template out.
Using your scratch tool, scratch your art into the black paint. There’s no wrong way to do this, so have fun with it.
When you’re done, you can leave the pumpkins as they are or you can glue them onto a bright or black piece of cardstock or construction paper.
And that’s it. Super simple and so much fun!
Now that you know how to make scratch art, go crazy with it! Make yourself a whole family of pumpkins or get creative with other designs.
